Indication
Treatment of bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms, including respiratory tract infections (sinusitis, pneumonia, tonsillitis, pharyngitis), ear infections (otitis media), urinary tract infections, skin/soft tissue infections, dental abscesses, bone/joint infections.
Dosage
As directed by physician; generally taken two or three times daily with food for best absorption and GI tolerance; swallow whole with water, do not split or crush.
Side Effects & Precautions
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, rash, mucocutaneous candidiasis, headache; rarely, liver enzyme elevation or severe allergic reactions.
Precautions: Avoid use if allergic to penicillins/cephalosporins, history of jaundice/liver problems from antibiotics, severe kidney impairment, and during pregnancy/breastfeeding unless advised; adhere to complete prescribed course; consult doctor if severe rash, breathing difficulty, or persistent GI symptoms.
